On Tuesday, rapper A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in his felony assault trial.

A$AP Rocky (born Rakim Mayers) was accused of firing a gun at his former friend Terrell “A$AP Relli” Ephron during a confrontation in Hollywood in November 2021. On August 15, 2022, Mayers was charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

In the trial, District Attorney John Lewin made a point to jury members to not have their decision influenced by the celebrity status present in the courtroom. He reminded the jury, “I want to make sure that no matter how famous…no matter how cute his kids are, no matter how much they giggle during closing arguments…he needs to be treated like any other person. Because in the end, that’s what he’s entitled to.”

In the trial, Ephron alleged that in a vicious argument, Mayers had drawn a handgun and fired at him twice, one shot of which grazed his knee.

Mayers’ defense argued that the altercation was initiated by Ephron and emphasized that the gun Mayers had used to defend himself was a prop from a music video set that only fired blanks.

The three-week-long trial ended with closing statements last Friday and the jury unanimously agreed their conclusion to be the “individual, true and correct verdict.”

At the sound of the verdict, Mayers rushed to hug his family, including longtime partner RihannaHe expressed his appreciation to the jury, saying, “Thank y’all for saving my life.”

Rihanna posted to her Instagram stories in celebration, with the simple white text on a black background reading, “THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD AND GOD ALONE!’

Below that, she added, “THANKFUL, HUMBLED BY HIS MERCY.”
