3 Men Charged With Murdering Rapper XXXTentacion Danced WIth $100 Bills After Crime, Prosecutor Says
On June 18, 2018, in Deerfield Beach, Florida, XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jaheh Onfroy, was shot by three masked killers outside RIVA Motorsports motorcycle shop and robbed.
Security camera footage from the shop showed Robert Allen and Dedrick Williams inside along with Onfroy before buying two black masks. The two left and allegedly went back to their SUV to wait for Onfroy.
When Onfroy got into his own BMW, the SUV blocked him from leaving and Trayvon Newsome and Michael Boatwright allegedly got out to demand money from Onfroy. After a brief struggle, the two masked men stole Onfroy’s Louis Vuitton bag and Onfroy’s chain. Allegedly, it was then that Boatwright went back to the SUV to grab a rifle and fired six shots to Onfroy’s neck.
During a traffic stop on June 20, Williams was recognized by the clothes he wore the day of the murder and was arrested for first-degree murder. On July 10, Boatwright was arrested for unrelated drug charges but was later connected to the murder and charged with premeditated murder. On July 25, Allen was arrested and on August 7, Newsome was arrested, both for premeditated first-degree murder and robbery with a deadly weapon. All men pled not guilty.
On August 12, 2022, Allen changed his plea to guilty in exchange for a lesser conviction of second-degree murder and testified against the other three men. If convicted, Boatwright, Williams and Newsome would face life in prison.
During closing arguments, Prosecutor Pascale Achille played a video taken of the defendants where they were dancing with handfuls of $100 bills.
“This is who they are. This is their real character. Killers that within 24 hours after shooting the victim dead and stealing $50,000 from him, this is what they do,” Achille said. “Look at how happy they look. Look at how excited they look.”
