2019 Super Bowl Halftime Show: Who Performing? When Does It Start? Everything You Need to Know!

The Los Angeles Rams will take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII and uInterview has everything you need to know about this year’s halftime performance.

When is the Halftime Show?

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 3. The game is split into 15 minute quarters, with the halftime performance following the first two. While it’s hard to say the exact time that the halftime show will begin, you should expect to see the stars hitting the stage around 8:30 p.m.

How Can I Watch?

The Super Bowl LIII Pepsi Halftime Show will air live on CBS from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The show can also be streamed for free on CBSSports.com or watched through the network’s app.

Who is Performing at Super Bowl 53?

Prior to the start, Gladys Knight will perform the National Anthem. The 2019 Super Bowl halftime show will be headlined by Maroon 5, the pop rock band led by lead singer and host of The Voice, Adam Levine. The three-time Grammy winning band will be joined by rapper Travis Scott and Big Boi, who is from the host city.

Maroon 5: With their most popular hits like “She Will Be Loved,” “Moves Like Jagger” and “Payphone,” the band has ruled the top of the pop charts for over a decade. Maroon 5 appeals to an array of listeners of all ages and has been nominated for a total of 13 Grammys. This will be their first Super Bowl performance.

Maroon 5 announced that together with Interscope Records and the NFL, they would be making a $500,000 contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Travis Scott: The rapper had an incredibly successful year in 2018 with the release of his most recent album Astroworld. He secured a spot as one of the most well-known names in the rap industry, as well as his sixth grammy nomination. The album, which was released in August, has been nominated for Best Rap Album at this month’s Grammy Awards. The album produced the song “Sicko Mode,” which has also been nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.

Earlier this month, Scott revealed that he, along with the NFL, will also be making a $500,000 donation to Dream Corps, an organization that is at the forefront of social justice issues like reducing jail populations and creating career opportunities for communities.

Big Boi: Joining the other two on stage, Big Boi is a native of Atlanta and is most known for his time spent alongside André 3000 in the hip-hop duo Outkast. They sold over 25 million albums and won six Grammys with their songs “Ms. Jackson,” “Hey Ya!” and countless others. Big Boi’s most-recent album, “Boomiverse,” came out in June 2017.

Why is the Performance Controversial?

This year, the halftime show has been marred in controversy as more than 114,000 people have signed a Change.org petition asking Maroon 5 to back out of the event in support of Colin Kaepernick.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback started a wave of protests after he took a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustices, police brutality and other social issues. Many believe that the silent statement led the league to effectively bar Kaepernick from the NFL.

Due to the situation, artists including Rihanna and Cardi B have reportedly turned down the NFL’s offer to perform. Cardi told reporters on Friday evening that she had “mixed feelings” after she declined to take the stage. She said it was a hard decision since her husband, rapper Offset, loves to watch football, but she felt obligated to “stand behind” Kaepernick because he “stood up” for minorities.

Amy Schumer did not hold back in sharing her disappointment with Maroon 5 for partaking in the lucrative opportunity. “I think it would be cool if @maroon5 backed out of the super bowl like @badgalriri did,” Schumer wrote on Instagram.

Scott also received his fair share of criticism for accepting the gig after other artists turned it down. Meek Mill took to Twitter to question why Scott would choose to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show amid the controversy surrounding it.
