2016 MTV VMA Nominations Led By Beyonce and Adele [Full List]
Last year, the MTV Video Music Awards were an internet sensation with the high anticipation of the host Miley Cyrus, her feud with Nicki Minaj, her surprise album release at the end of the show, and Kanye West’s announcement to run for President in 2020.
So the stakes are high for this year’s show.
Beyonce leads with 11 nominations for her visual album Lemonade, her most at a single VMAs yet. Adele follows with eight nominations for her record-breaking return album 25.
The Video of the Year category pits Adele’s “Hello,” Beyonce’s “Formation,” Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” and Kanye West’s “Famous” against each other, making for a night of suspense.
MTV has also introduced a new category “Breakthrough Long-Form Video,” to fit the changing forms of music distribution. This year’s nominees for the award are Florence + the Machine’s The Odyssey, Beyonce’s Lemonade, Justin Bieber’s PURPOSE: The Movement, Chris Brown’s Royalty, and Troye Sivan’s Blue Neighborhood Trilogy.
