Alison Sweeney, who has starred on Days of Our Lives for 21 years, has announced that she’ll be leaving the soap opera.

Alison Sweeney Leaving ‘Days of Our Lives’

Sweeney, who started out on Days when she was just 16, revealed that she thinks that now is the right time for her to step away. Now 37, she has two young children with whom she’d like to spend more time.

“I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show,” Sweeney told Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show. “I’ve been on Days of Our Lives since I was 16 years old, and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time.”

“I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans. I love everything about it,” she added. “I just work so much and my daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9 and I just want to be with them.”

In addition to playing the troublemaking Sami, Sweeney also hosts reality weight-loss show The Biggest Loser. She’s also penned books All the Days of My Life (So Far) and The Star Attraction.

How does Sweeney want her character to go out? In some way similar to Walter “Heisenberg” White. “[Sami] deserves some sort of very twisted, like, Breaking Bad ending,” she said. “She’s caused a lot of people a lot of problems.”
