'Dancing With The Stars' Recap: Bill Engvall Exits, Amber Riley Remains On Top
Dancing With the Stars opened with a performance by last season’s winner, country singer Kellie Pickler before diving into the dance routines of the final four couples.
Bill Engvall & Emma Slater
First up on Monday were funny man Bill Engvall and Emma Slater reprising their emotional Viennese Waltz from week 5 of the competition. The judges were in agreement that while he showed a slight improvement he’s still not nearly on par with the others. Round 1 Score: 24 For the Freestyle routine, Emma choreographed an Indiana Jones-themed number at the end of which Bill spontaneously tore his shirt off. The duo got their first 9 of the competition. Freestyle Score: 25
Corbin Bleu & Karina Smirnoff
Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff committed to a revamped version of their Hollywood-themed quickstep. Despite Len Goodman’s efforts to help the former High School Musical star tighten up his footwork, he still struggled to match the speed of the dance. Round 1 Score: 27 Channeling Michael Jackson, Corbin moonwalked and did the famous lean from the “Smooth Criminal” music video. There’s no denying that the number is impressive. Freestyle Score: 30
Jack Osbourne & Cheryl Burke
Bringing back the Jive for which he received his first 10 was Jack Osbourne and his pro partner Cheryl Burke. Unfortunately, Jack failed to match the precision he delivered first time around. Round 1 Score: 24 Since Jack’s best dances have been the classics, Cheryl choreographed a freestyle ballroom routine with Jack in a tux and top hat. The judges raved about his progress. Freestyle Score: 30
Amber Riley & Derek Hough
The last pair to take to the dance floor in the first round of the finale was Amber Riley and Derek Hough, delivering a tuned-up version of their Charleston that saw them receive their lowest score of the competition – 23. Amber blew the judges away with her improvements. Round 1 Score: 30 Amber taught Derek how to step, which the pro incorporated into a country western-themed freestyle routine that put the Glee actress front and center. Again, the judges are wowed. Freestyle Score: 30
Samba Relay
TLC – Chilli, T-Boz and newcomer Lil’ Mama – performed “No Scrubs” as the four couples took on a Samba relay. At the end, the judges ranked them 4th to 1st and awarded them corresponding points.
4th Place: Bill and Emma – 2 points
3rd Place: Jack and Cheryl – 3 points
2nd Place: Amber and Derek – 4 points
1st Place: Corbin and Karina – 5 points
DWTS Results
At the end of the night, score leaders Amber and Derek were named the first couple in the final 3, followed by Corbin and Karina. Ousted from the competition this week is Blue Collar Comedy’s Bill Engvall, who lasted longer in the competition than anyone expected.
Tonight, Nov. 26, the final three will each perform the 24-Hour Fusion Dance and learn who won the Mirror Ball Trophy for Dancing With the Stars Season 17.
