Billing itself as “A Huge Platform For Important News,” the new website TheBigAssNews.com manages to subvert our national media obsession in an altogether original and amusing way. Mocking our collective enthrallment with the Kardashian family, TheBigAssNews.com plasters notable headlines of the day over pictures of Kim Kardashian’s oversized derriere.
The site hit the net last week and is the brainchild of two New York based art directors Jennifer Garcia and Carl Larsson. According to Larsson, the site is meant to serve as a “cultural wake-up call and an immensely accurate grasp of the attention span of America,” wrote the creator in an email to Newsweek.
Recent headlines include pieces pulled from the New York Times, The Guardian, BBC and CNN, covering topics as diverse as Hong Kong protests, Gaza terror attacks and the developing situation in the Ukraine. The overlaid text also serves as a hyperlink to the article, encouraging readers to leave the actual site in order to inform themselves. So what are you still doing here? Go perform your civic duty, read the news plastered to a butt.
