In a sit-down conversation with uInterview, actor Frankie Muniz shared new details about the upcoming reboot of Malcolm in the Middle. The series, which initially premiered in 2000 and aired until 2006, followed a dysfunctional family’s brilliant middle child (Malcolm) as he navigates his wild family’s antics. Muniz played the title character and was cast as the child prodigy at just 13 years old. Asked by uInterview founder Erik Meers what characters in the sitcom will be making their return on screen, Muniz answered, “I can say this, I don’t know what I can and can’t say, but I think everyone will be very happy with the amount of characters that are on the new Malcolm in the Middle . Even characters that you don’t expect to see, that you wouldn’t expect to see over the first seven seasons, you see a lot of people. I’ll say that.” The Malcolm in the Middle reboot is expected to air on Disney+ in 2025. Although the revival of the sitcom was originally pitched as a two-hour movie, it has been revealed that it will instead be presented as a mini-series with four half-hour-long episodes. The return to the show will supposedly see the title character, accompanied by his daughter (a role supposedly yet to be cast) come home for his parents’ 40th anniversary party. Presently, the only confirmed returning cast is Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek. Muniz recently appeared in the sci-fi thriller film Renner, which came out in theaters on date. The story follows Muniz, a computer genius, who designs an A.I. to help him battle his social anxiety and find love. However, when he accidentally programs his mother’s controlling personality into intelligence, his creation grows more manipulative and malicious. In contrast with his snarky character in Malcolm in the Middle, Muniz shared his experience playing the main character in Renner; “Every day was a hard day, meaning there’s so much emotion and intensity throughout the movie…”Renner was released on February 7 and can be seen in select theaters.
