Tiger Woods missed a historic moment at the PNC Championship on Sunday when his 15-year-old son, Charlie Woods, nailed his first-ever hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth hole. Tiger, who was taking a break at the time, heard the crowd’s roar and returned to the green to celebrate the milestone with a huge hug for Charlie.

“It was a perfect 7-iron. Just 175 [yards], a little down off the left, little cut seven,” Charlie explained to Golf Channel. “It was awesome. I didn’t think it went in. I don’t believe anybody until I go up there and see it.”

The hole-in-one came as Team Woods led the field at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. Despite the highlight-reel moment, the duo eventually fell to Team Langer in a playoff, finishing 28-under.

“It was the most fun I’ve ever had,” Charlie said after the tournament.

For Tiger, 48, this weekend’s event marked a return to the course after undergoing his sixth back surgery in September. The procedure was intended to ensure he could compete alongside his children, with daughter Sam serving as his caddie for the second consecutive year.

“One of the reasons why I had the surgery done earlier was so I could give myself the best chance to be with Charlie and play,” Tiger said. “I’m not competitive right now, but I just want to have the experience again. This has always been one of the bigger highlights of the year for us as a family.”

The spotlight on Charlie continues to grow as he develops his golf career. While he fell short in a local U.S. Open qualifier in April, Tiger remains focused on supporting his son’s unique journey.

“Charlie is Charlie,” Tiger emphasized. “Yes, he’s my son, and he’s going to have my last name, but I just want him to be himself, carve his own name, carve his own path, and have his own journey. I think he’s doing a great job.”

Tiger also acknowledged the added pressure of today’s digital age, with constant media attention and social scrutiny. “That’s just part of his generation, and it’s part of the world that he has to maneuver through,” he said.

Elsewhere at the PNC Championship, Padraig Harrington’s son, Paddy, added to the excitement with his own hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole, making it a memorable weekend for rising young stars.

Last year, Tiger was in the news when his ex-girlfriend sued him for $30 million, which she later dropped.
