Drone footage and eyewitness video on the ground showed chemical water gushing from a once-plugged well in Toyah, Texas, plaguing the surrounding area with a rotten egg smell.

Footage by Sarah Stogner, who was on the ground with Hawk Dunlap, shows the dramatic eruption on Oct. 2, visible for miles.

Stogner, an oil and gas attorney, told the Texas Tribune it was the eighth time in a year that a so-called “orphaned well” in West Texas had blown out, spewing chemical water.

Stogner told Storyful on November 15 that the egg smell no longer impacted the town. Crews were still working on the well, but it had stopped shooting out water.

The well was drilled in 1961 by El Paso Gas Company.
