NBA Star Stephen Curry Says He Might Run For President

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry said his next career may be in politics.

Curry appeared on CBS Mornings to promote his second children’s book, I Am Extraordinary, which aims to inspire kids to embrace their uniqueness. CBS News’ Jericka Duncan asked the basketball player if he would ever consider running for president following his time in the athletic world.

“Maybe, I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way I can,” Curry said. “So if that’s the way to do it, then — I’m not going to say the presidency but if politics is a way that you can create meaningful change or if there’s another way outside of politics.”

A stint in politics would not be too surprising for Curry. He and his wife, Ayesha Curry, are extremely involved in the Oakland community, even after the Warriors moved to San Francisco. Their foundation, Eat. Learn. Play., supports kids in the Oakland public school district and the couple serves as a spokesfamily for No Kid Hungry, which ensures Oakland kids have access to school meals.

Curry has also been outspoken about racial injustice and violence against Black people in America. He was seen walking in protests during the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020.

In 2023, Curry talked to uInterview about his documentary, Undefeated.

“Mostly it was about what preceded in my pre-college and college days of learning who I am that set me on my path to get me to the NBA,” Curry explained. “And everything I learned about myself and what it means to pursue greatness at the highest level, but still be in the moment and embrace what’s happening right in front of you, is what matters because everybody sees the finished product, the accomplishments, championships and all the great things that have happened, but it all started from somewhere.”
