Although scandal-plagued former Rep. Madison Cawthorn attended Vivek Ramaswamy’s pre-debate rally in Miami, he clarified that he still supports Donald Trump as the 2024 Republican presidential nominee.

The former North Carolina congressman told DailyMail that Ramaswamy was the only candidate participating in Wednesday’s debate representing his “values” but that he will still be voting for Trump.

“I’m still hardcore for Trump,” Cawthorne explained. “I would fight and die for Trump.”

According to Ramaswamy’s campaign, the biotech engineer did not reach out to Cawthorn about attending the rally.

Ramaswamy took the final question of the night from the former congressman, who asked about bringing industry to the U.S. from China as tensions rise between the two countries.

Ramaswamy left a moment at the end of the rally to praise Cawthorn.

“This guy is awesome,” he said. “For those of you who don’t know, he’s an American hero.”

Cawthorn lost his seat in Congress when he was defeated in the GOP primary last year. He was the subject of numerous investigations by the House ethics committee, including engaging in “inappropriate behavior” with a male staffer.

One of the biggest moments of the debate came when former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Hailey called Ramaswamy “scum” after he mentioned her daughter’s use of TikTok.
