Mike White, the creator of The White Lotus, said that the upcoming third season of the HBO hit has big things in store for fans.

“It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” White told EW. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing … I’m super excited about the content of the season.”

He gave an update on how the new season is doing in terms of development.

Season three will not premiere until 2025 due to the 2023 SAG and writers strikes.

“I’m seriously finishing scripts,” White said. “Still waiting to be able to cast. If the SAG strike isn’t resolved soon, then yeah, we’d have to push again because the show has a new cast every season, so there’s lots of parts to cast … I’m more than eager to get going.”

The third season will take place in Thailand and may bring back cast members from the first two seasons

One actress who was reported to be returning is Natasha Rothwell, who portrayed the spa manager, Belinda, in season one.

“It would be easy to just be full-on anthology, but I think it’s more fun to have little threads through the show,” he stated. “If the show goes on for a couple of seasons, it would be fun to have an all-star season.”

The series had been in the initial phases of preparation for season three when the writers’ strike forced its production to shut down.

“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” the creator stated in an HBO video. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”

In June, White said that a prequel season starring fan favorite Jennifer Coolidge is possible.
