Mark Wahlberg may be leaving acting soon.

In a new interview with Cigar Aficionado, Wahlberg, 52, looked back on his career – and discussed upcoming plans.

“Well I’m certainly working harder now than ever,” Wahlberg explained. “Certain businesses, you kind of build them, pass them on or you exit. I don’t think that I’ll be acting that much longer at the pace I am now.”

But Wahlberg may be going into a related field – directing.

He expressed his excitement about “working with some of the other great talents and the next batch of great talent.”

Recalling his entire career, the actor noted how he became a producer to grow his acting opportunities.

“I started becoming a producer out of necessity,” he stated. “I didn’t want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and were the guys at the time, and Leo [DiCaprio], to go and pass on a movie until I could get my hands on it.”

“I was always proactive in trying to find material and things that I could produce,” he continued. “That I knew was right for me, [to] create my own destiny.”

This isn’t the first Wahlberg has mused about leaving the profession. When he was interviewed by ET in April 2022, Wahlberg explained why his acting career would end soon.

When he was asked when he would leave acting, the actor said, “Sooner rather than later, probably.”

“It’s gotta be something special to really bring me, you know, to leave home, to leave those guys behind,” he said, alluding to his wife, Rhea Durham, and their four children. “Because it’s the biggest sacrifice… for sure.”
