Boyd Holbrook is an American actor. He is best known for his roles in Narcos, Gone Girl (2014), Logan (2017) and Vengeance (2022).

Boyd Holbrook was born in 1980 (Boyd Holbrook’s age: 42) in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Ellen and Don Holbrook.

Holbrook studied at the William Esper Studio for the Meisner Acting Program and with Shane Ann Younts’ voice and speech program.

BOYD HOLBROOK BIOGRAPHY: CAREER

Holbrook started his career as a model in 2001 for labels such as Gucci, Versace, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs. His acting career started in 2008 with his role in the movie Milk and other movies like Higher Ground (2011), The Magic of Belle Isle (2012), The Host (2013) and The Skeleton Twins (2014).

His career took off after his role in Gone Girl (2014), a psychological thriller directed by David Fincher. This led him to the role of DEA agent Steve Murphy in Netflix’s Narcos (2015-2017) and then as the antagonist in Logan (2017). Some of Holbrook’s other acting credits include Jane Got a Gun (2016), Morgan (2016), The Predator (2018), We Can Be Heroes (2020) and The Cursed (2021).

The movie Vengeance (2022) is a true-crime satire that follows the story of podcast host, Ben Manalowitz (played by writer and director B.J. Novak) who travels to Texas to follow a lead called in by Ty Shaw (played by Holbrook) for his late girlfriend, Abby (Lio Tipton), whom Ben had once hooked up with.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Holbrook discussed what it was like working with The Office star, Novak.

“I have to be honest, I was a little intimidated at first when B.J. just assumed that I could do this role,” Holbrook revealed. “He’s a legend in the comedy space, even the stand-up comedy from way back when, but he had given me such a great character to play and I you know I couldn’t really say no it was such a great cast and such a great story, something fresh that really hadn’t seen before. I went in and he led the way.”

Holbrook also commented on the advice Novak gave him while shooting the movie.

“He talked early on about The Truth in Comedy and that was all from a book that he gave me,” Holbrook said. “And it was just really you know I think a big trap for comedies is playing the joke. As the title of the book says, The Truth in Comedy so really just playing the reality of that. And the more you lean into the passion of that actual story, the comedy will just play itself out.”
