Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner have been living primarily in the town of Surfside, a beachside community in the Miami area, since leaving Washington last year amid growing rumors around their involvement in the Jan 6 Capitol riots.

Both Kushner and Trump were top aides to former President Donald Trump, and have seemingly adopted the opposite strategy from him in terms of post-Presidential behavior. Donald Trump is still making headlines with outlandish public statements against the Biden administration, and institutions investigating him. His daughter and son-in-law, meanwhile, have given no interviews and are obviously laying low as legal cases build against Trump’s presidential administration and the Trump Organization.

Surfside is a small Miami town with a population of just around 6,000 people and has the nickname “Miami’s Uptown Beachtown.” Kushner and Trump have been spotted there since last summer, walking around the town’s residential neighborhoods with their three children biking by them, exercising along Miami beaches, and were seen at a “Spooktacular” Halloween event a pumpkin patch last fall. They aren’t hiding from public view in general but have yet to provide any public comments to reporters.

This move seems to involve both business and pleasure for the family, though. Kushner’s family real estate business Kushner Companies is overseeing as much as a billion dollars worth of development work in South Florida. Kushner has also started his own company in Miami, a venture-capital firm named Affinity Partners that allegedly has been securing investments from several international sources, and is writing a tell-all book to be released through Broadside Books, an imprint of HarperCollins that leans conservative.

Ivanka, on the other hand, has been focused on her private life according to sources close to the family. At one point there were rumors that Ivanka would challenge Sen. Marco Rubio (R) for his Senate seat, but she has reportedly called Rubio personally to assure him she would support his re-election campaign and had no intention to run herself.

While her brothers and father continue to serve as talking heads for conservative talk shows and try to extend their time in the political spotlight, it’s interesting to see a member of the Trump family do something to distinctly break ranks with them. That’s not to say she and her father aren’t in touch at all, Kushner and Ivanka reportedly visit Mar-a-Lago every few weeks, but are much less central to his decision-making process as they were in the White House.
