One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson was arrested Friday after an altercation with paparazzi.

The 25-year-old former One Direction singer was arriving at LAX with his girlfriend Eleanor Calder when he allegedly pushed a male photographer, who fell and and claimed he had injured himself. Tomlinson pushed the man because “he got too close to his face.”

Airport police told ABC News that officers responded to a disturbance in a baggage claim area at around 8:25 p.m. According to witness accounts reported by police, the 25-year-old singer allegedly pulled a photographer to the ground by his legs, causing him to fall backward and hit his head on the floor. The photographer was later transported to a local hospital for treatment, airport police said.

Tomlinson’s lawyer Martin Singer said: “The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis at the airport this morning. This is not the first or last time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity.”

“While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during this incident and he came to her defence,” he added.

The musician did not have to pay the $20,000 bail, as he was released under “Own Recognizance” in which an individual pledges in writing to appear in all court proceedings.

A court date was set for March 29, said reports.

Tomlinson is currently releasing solo material while One Direction are on hiatus.
