Does Holly Holm, New UFC Champ, Not Know Who Beyoncé Is?

Holly Holm, the newly-minted UFC women’s bantamweight champion, needed an introduction to Jay Z‘s wife – international superstar Beyoncé.

After beating Ronda Rousey via KO earlier this month in the title match earlier this month, Holm headed to a viewing party for the Canelo Alvarez-Miguel Cotto boxing match over the weekend. At the star-studded bash, Holm met Brooklyn-born rapper Jay Z, and things quickly got awkward for the athlete.

“I meet Jay Z and he says, ‘This is my wife,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, hi, what’s your name?’ Because that’s what I do when I meet someone’s wife,” Holm told Albuquerque’s KRQE. “And as I’m shaking her hand, I’m thinking, ‘Why did I just say that? Why did I just say that? It’s Beyoncé.'”

Holm could not let go of the embarrassing moment, and had to interrupt Jay Z’s take on the match to reassure Beyoncé that she did in fact know who she was.

“Jay Z is asking me about the fight and I can’t even focus on what he’s saying because I just put my foot in my mouth. I literally have to interrupt him, I’m like, ‘I’m really sorry,’ ” Holm told KRQE. “And I go back to Beyoncé, and I’m like, ‘Beyoncé, like, I can’t believe I just did that.’ Yeah, she goes, ‘Oh, no it’s fine.’ I’m like, ‘No, like, I really, really – it’s like such an honor to meet you.’ ”
