Melissa McCarthy Reveals Her Weight Loss Secret: “I Truly Stopped Worrying About It”
Melissa McCarthy opened up about her recent weight loss in an interview, saying her secret has been simply to stop pressuring herself to lose weight.
Melissa McCarthy On Weight Loss: “I Feel Amazing”
McCarthy showed off a noticeably slimmer figure at the premiere of her new film Spy, helped, no doubt, by her dress, which she designed herself, and the actress was asked about her weight loss secret during an interview with CBS’s This Morning.
“Melissa, can I say you look great? I saw you on the red carpet with one of your designs and… I was saying, ‘Listen, I’m about to sign up for Weight Watchers for the third time because I know it works, and you’re doing something that’s working for you. Do you want to say what it is?” asked Gayle King.
“Just crying a lot. I’m crying off the pounds,” McCarthy joked.
On a more serious note, McCarthy said that she recently realized she could stop putting so much pressure on herself to lose weight: “I feel amazing and I finally said, ‘Oh, for God sakes, stop worrying about it’ and it may be the best thing I’ve ever done.”
When pressed on specifics, McCarthy stood by her laid back approach, saying, “I truly stopped worrying about it…. I stopped over-analyzing, over-thinking, over-doing anything. I kind of went back to when I was pregnant and I just stopped constantly being worried about it and I think there’s something to kind of loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked. I could’ve figured that out before 44, but whatever.”
McCarthy has previously spoken out about her experience being a plus size woman in Hollywood, preaching body acceptance and speaking out against sexist critics who go after her weight.
McCarthy is even launching her own clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, to launch in August, with the aim of empowering women.
“I want women to get dressed every day and feel good about themselves. I don’t care what it is, if it’s dyeing your hair blue, if it’s a sweater, whatever you want to do, if it makes you feel good and empowered, I stand behind it 100 percent. And if I can be a little tiny block on that wall, I’d be proud of that,” McCarthy told People.
