Austin is believed to have taken his own life, his attorney Luke Evans told WSMV-TV. “It’s unfortunate the government came in and made allegations without basis,” Evans said. “People had to live with those allegations … under the cloud of those allegations.”
Last year, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation indicted Zachary Adams on charges of kidnapping and murdering Bobo. Soon after, in March 2014, Austin signed an immunity agreement with prosecutors. In April, Jason Autry was indicted on the same charges as Adams, while Austin remained free from indictment. However, prosecutors decided to revoke his immunity agreement after allegedly determining that he’d lied to investigators.
In light of the prosecutors’ decision, Evans had filed a lawsuit to prevent an indictment of his client. Though these events occurred in May of last year, they’d yet to be resolved in court.
Bobo, a cousin of country music star Whitney Duncan, was abducted outside of her home in April 2011. Two hunters found partial remains of the missing 20-year-old in a wooded area in Decatur County in September 2014.
