Wright, 48, was apparently the one to break off the engagement after realizing that marrying Foster, 34, didn’t make any sense at the points in their respective careers, reported Us Weekly. In addition to both Wright and Foster being at busy points in their careers, there’s also the undeniable age difference.
“She got swept up in the engagement last Christmas, but then their schedules got crazy and she realized it wasn’t the right decision,” an insider told Us Weekly, adding, “The gap just ended up being too much. Ben was kind of immature. She couldn’t deal with him anymore.”
This past summer, things grew increasingly difficult for the couple, as Wright was splitting her time between filming House of Cards in Baltimore and visiting with her kids with Sean Penn – Dylan, 23, and Hopper Jack, 21 – in Los Angeles. Foster, meanwhile, was acting in a stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire in London.
Wright and Foster met on the set of Rampart in 2011 and became engaged in December 2013. Back in February, Wright said that the proposal was “such a shock,” adding, “But we felt married anyway. We’ve been together ever since the first date.” She also revealed that she had a “B” tattooed on her finger, while Foster had an “R” inked in the same place.
Foster would have been Wright’s third husband. She was previously married to Penn from 1996-2010 and to Dane Witherspoon from 1986-1988.
