Morgana McNelis: Who is Charlie Hunnam’s Girlfriend?

Charlie Hunnam, the Pacific Rim star, and Morgana McNelis have been dating for six years, though his off-screen leading lady manages to stay out of the spotlight and off the red carpet.

Unlike, Hunnam, McNelis doesn’t make her living as an actor. After taking a jewelry class at age 20, she found her calling as a jewelry designer, according to the bio on her website. Though she doesn’t work on movies, they do inform her craft. Before listing designers Alexander McQueen and Riccardo Tisci as inspirations, she names the aesthetic of Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula as an influence.

“Quality is paramount for me,” McNelis says, according to her website. “It’s not enough for my jewelry to be beautiful and unique, I want it to hold its value. In 20 years, I want women to still be wearing the jewelry they buy today.”

Speaking of jewelry, Hunnam has implied in the past that he’ll be the one receiving a ring when he and McNelis get engaged. “’She told me she was making me a diamond-encrusted ring — she’s a jewelry designer, not an actor — and I was like ‘Uh-oh.’ This is not going to go well for me,” he joked to Elle. “But I love it. It’s so discrete and beautiful.”

Though Hunnan typically plays a tough guy and has even said, “I’ve been swaggering since I was 14 years old,” those who spend time with him know him to be a truly nice guy at heart. “Charlie has a very, very transparent decency,” Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro said of the actor to USA Today. “He has a good-guy aura, which is very hard to simulate.”

At the Pacific Rim Hollywood premiere on Wednesday, McNelis wasn’t spotted on the red carpet, sparking rumors that Hunnam may have pulled a Henry Cavill – getting a more famous girlfriend (Kaley Cuoco) once shooting to superstardom. However, pictures of the night indicate that McNelis arrived with Hunnam in a limo, but just didn’t walk the carpet with him.

Hunnam was previously married to actress Katherine Towne. When he met Towne at an audition for Dawson’s Creek in 1999, he fell in love and married her four weeks later. They divorced in 2002.
