Jada Pinkett Smith Opens Up About Addictions, Divorce

Jada Pinkett Smith has been taking to her Facebook page to share with her followers her past struggles with addiction and how she feels about approaching the idea of divorce.

On Sept. 19, Pinkett Smith’s birthday, she elected to open up about her younger years and the demons she battled on the way to where she is now at 42. “When I was younger I was not a good problem solver, meaning I had a very difficult time with dealing with my problems in life,” she wrote. “I had many addictions, of several kinds, to deal with my life issues, but today, at 42, I have my wisdom, my heart and my conscience as the only tools to overcome life's inevitable obstacles.”

Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith have long been dogged by rumors of trouble in their marriage. The rumors reached an all-time high in 2011 and reemerged earlier this year while Will was promoting After Earth with his son Jaden Smith. The wedded pair of 16 years had to answer to speculation that they had an open marriage.

"For the past five years, I have been meeting with elders who have been married for 25+ years to get understanding from many perspectives as to what marriage and love is all about,” Jada revealed in a Sept. 22 Facebook post. After this process the answer may be the same, but at least you will have the clarity to go about it all with certainty and integrity, but you may also find that spark that could save and rekindle your marriage."

Jada and Will were married in 1997, when Will had just ended his run on Fresh Prince and Jada's film career was at an all-time high. They have two children together, who have followed their famous parents into the spotlight – Jaden, 15, and Willow, 12.
