UFC light heavyweight fighter Thiago Silva was arrested after he allegedly threatened his estranged wife and her current boyfriend at gunpoint. When police were called, Silva reportedly had an armed standoff with law enforcement at his Florida home.

Thiago Silva Threatens Estranged Wife & Her Boyfriend

After issuing a series of threats at Thaysa Silva and her current boyfriend Pablo Popovich over the last week, Silva showed up at Popvitch’s training center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Thursday, reported NBC 6 South Florida. Once there, he honked the horn of his car until his wife emerged. According to the police report, when she came out, he told her, "You have 10 seconds to bring Pablo outside and if he does not come out, I will go in the gym and start shooting everyone."

Popovitch did eventually come out. With the attention of Popovitch and his wife, Silva reportedly made threats on both of their lives – something he’d also done on Wednesday. Fearful that Silva was going to make good on his threat, Popovitch returned to his training facility, locked the doors and dialed up the police.

Silva's Armed Standoff With Police

When police arrived at Silva’s home, the fighter engaged in an armed standoff before exiting his house and surrendering. Operating with caution, police hit Silva with a stun gun before taking him into custody, reported NBC Miami.

The UFC initially declined to comment on Silva’s status with the organization, saying, "We were made aware of a situation involving Thiago Silva. We are in the process of gathering the facts and have no further comment at this time." They’ve now announced that they’ve ended their ties with the fighter: “The Ultimate Fighting Championship has terminated the contract of Thiago Silva, effective immediately.”

Silva, who is ranked 12th in his division, holds a 16-3 record in UFC bouts.
