Prince, a week before his death, was rushed to a hospital in Illinois after his private plane made an emergency landing. The audio from the call regarding the emergency landing has now been released.

Prince Emergency Landing

On April 14, Prince was on his way home to Minnesota after playing a show in Atlanta. His plane was unexpectedly forced to land in Moline, Ill., where Prince was taken to a local hospital.

The controller from the Chicago Control Center told the pilot of Prince’s plane that “CFR [Crash, Fire, Rescue] will be waiting,” when the plane landed, reported TMZ.

When the Chicago controller asked, “What’s the nature of the emergency?” the response was “an unresponsive passenger.” The air traffic controller also asked the gender of the passenger, to which he received the response, “It’s a male passenger.” It does not appear as though anyone on the ground knew that it was Prince who was the unresponsive male passenger.

Following Prince’s hospitalization, the musician’s team claimed that he had been suffering from severe flu-like symptoms. However, reports have since emerged claiming that Prince received a “save” shot reserved for opiate overdoses. Adding to that claim are the reports that Prince was known to take heavy dosages of pain killers for hip and ankle injuries.

Prince died on April 21 in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minn. He was 57.
