Oliver shared a family photo featuring his younger self, his sister Kate Hudson and their biological father on the family holiday. Though the three are smiling in the photo, the sentiment behind the post was far less cheerful. “Happy abandonment day…@katehudson,” Oliver wrote in the caption.

Kate Hudson Honors Kurt Russell On Father’s Day

Bill Hudson fathered Oliver and Kate, both actors, with his ex-wife Goldie Hawn, and the two divorced in 1980 when the two were young children. And both Oliver and Kate have spoken about being raised by their mother’s longtime partner, Kurt Russell. In fact, Kate made no mention of her biological father on Instagram for Father’s Day, instead sharing a photo of Russell. “Pa, just simply… Thank you. Happy Fathers Day I love you to the moon and back,” she wrote.

In March, Oliver paid tribute to Russell as a father figure to celebrate Russell’s 64th birthday on Instagram. “Happy birthday to the greatest dad in Santa Monica. I love you more than you realize.. Before you came into my life, I was only potential and you made me, forced me, to find my confidence, my independence and strive for the elusive fearlessness that you so matter of factly possess.. I lookup to you and I always will,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Oliver, who has children of his own, received Happy Father’s Day wishes form his mother, Hawn, via Twitter. Hawn gushed over her son, calling him “the best papa.”
