In an unexpected twist to carnival festivities, a group of police officers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, wearing full Power Rangers gear arrested a suspected phone thief while in costume on March 1. Footage released by Tarcisio Gomes de Freitas, the governor of Sao Paulo, shows the Power Rangers in action and apprehending the suspect. “It’s morphing time,” Gomes de Freitas wrote, referencing the iconic 90s TV show. “Our heroes noticed the suspicious behavior of a duo inside the block and with an approach that no ranger would find fault with, they arrested the criminal and recovered seven cell phones.” According to the State of Sao Paulo’s Secretariat of Public Security, the disguises were part of an anti-theft strategy by police during the carnival season.
