VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Ximena Lamadrid & Daniel Giménez Cacho On Working With Alejandro González Iñárritu On ‘Bardo’

Bardo follows the story of a journalist and documentary filmmaker as he finds himself on a journey to connect back with his past and his Mexican heritage.

Daniel Giménez Cacho, who plays Silverio and Ximena Lamadrid, who plays Camila, recently sat for an exclusive with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss what it was like working with renowned five-time Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu.

“Right before we began shooting, we rehearsed in a Hacienda, a hotel very secluded sort of in the middle of nowhere in Mexico,” Lamadrid revealed. “We stayed there for about to or three nights and we were rehearsing with the four of us – Griselda [Siciliani], Daniel, Íker [Sánchez Solano] and I with Alejandro doing a lot of the acting exercises, connecting, getting to know each other. It never felt intimidating. It never felt like he was this huge director and we had to sort of aspire to work with him. It just happened naturally and we all became a family. I think that entire experience in the Hacienda is such a beautiful memory.”

“For me, it was an enormous experience,” Cacho added, “It was a privileged time and opportunity to work with, in a very close dialogue, with myself. I had this chance of working as I never did before. Without constructing or building a character, every morning it was just saying, ‘How do you feel today?’ and that’s the way the character is going to be. I was so free to dive into myself. I know this movie is constructed with a lot of personal stuff from Alejandro’s life, but it became my personal stuff immediately, so I have an enormous amount of anecdotes that happened to me during the shooting that were amazingly, very personal, very profound that questioned me about my life, my relationship with father, my relation with my country … It became a very, very important journey for me. I’ve very thankful for Alejandro and that he gave me this chance to dive into myself in such a profound way.”

Bardo is now playing in select theaters. It will stream exclusively on Netflix starting Dec. 15.
