Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, the film Eileen follows the title character (Thomasin McKenzie) as she works at a prison when a mysterious love interest, Rebecca (Anne Hathaway), joins the staff and things take a turn for the more dangerous.
In an exclusive interview with uInterview, director William Oldroyd talked about the casting process for the film.
“It was straightforward because these are great roles and so when we’re looking to cast, our first choices were Thomasin McKenzie for Eileen and Anne Hathaway for Rebecca,” he said. “And when they read the script they loved it and they decided to come on board, so I mean it was a, you know, dream come true really.”

Oldroyd also revealed what it was like working with Hathaway.
“Wonderful,” he said. “She was a complete joy, you know, she was so prepared, so diligent, disciplined and what that allows her is then to be totally free in the moment to find the unexpected because she has done all that preparation it was a very, very, very happy experience.”
