The traditionally in-person Tribeca Film Festival is trying something new this year.
In addition to the normally formatted festival, “Tribeca at Home” will open Tribeca films to worldwide recognition as fans are able to stream a curated selection of films from June 9 through July 3.
Tribeca Film Festival Co-Founder Jane Rosenthal shared the details behind the new feature.
“One of the things I’m excited about is that audiences can see some new pictures,” she said. “For example, the one that won our narrative award, Good Girl Jane, is a wonderful film by a new filmmaker with a terrific new performance in it. You get a chance to see not only new films, but you can also see some retrospectives. One that I enjoyed seeing again was Heat, which doesn’t stream very often. It will be available on “Tribeca at Home” through with a conversation with [Robert] De Niro and [Al] Pachino talking about their experience making that picture back in 1995.”
Rosenthal also shed light into her partnership with Robert De Niro and how they came up with the idea to start Tribeca Film Festival.
“Rob and I have been partners for years as producers making movies and it was after 9/11 that we wanted to do something to bring back the community not being rescue workers or steel workers or firefighters and we decided to put on a festival,” the producer said. “That first year was the film About a Boy a picture that we had produced. We thought we were only doing one festival and here we are, just completed our 21st festival, not just bringing the festival to our neighborhood but to neighborhoods throughout New York and now with “Tribeca at Home” bringing it nationally to everyone.”
