U.S. Olympic basketball star Travis Dylan is excited to be competing this week at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Dylan, a key player on the U.S. men’s 3×3 basketball team, is confident that his team can win a gold medal.

“Our goal is always to win gold,” Dylan told uInterview in May. “We’re lucky we qualified. We had a great season in 2023, which helped us get the points we needed. Four years ago we weren’t this lucky to do that. So we feel like we have really good four guys that have a ton of chemistry, and I think gold is very realistic for us.”

The 2024 Olympics will mark the debut of men’s 3×3 basketball, a fast-paced, high-intensity variant of the traditional game, at the Paris Games. Dylan believes this will be a pivotal moment for the sport.

“Everyone who watches 3×3 really enjoys it,” he noted. “It’s a great platform to showcase the sport, especially with the Olympics returning to the U.S. in 2028. Performing well in Paris will help build the sport’s profile and excite American fans for LA 2028.”

Preparing for the intense and physically demanding 3×3 games involves rigorous training. Dylan described his approach to mental and physical preparation, emphasizing the sport’s grueling nature. “3×3 is such a short game, but it’s incredibly intense and physical. You have to be prepared for a battle. It’s tough; you come out feeling beaten and battered, but it’s worth it,” he said.

Dylan added that the sport’s potential for earning prize money and the joy of competing make the hard work worthwhile. “You practice twice a day, get your body right, and then you just trust your preparation,” he noted.
