In their new exclusive uInterview, SWV (Sisters With Voices) speak about their tour with the groups Jodeci and Dru Hill and their secrets to a successful tour.
The three women, Taj Johnson-George, Lelee Lyons and Coko Gamble, all agreed that the best way to ensure that the tour goes smoothly is to make sure that there are a lot of “Chick-fil-A and pajama parties.”
Johnson-George also shared that it is vital to stick “with the course and grow with it,” which, she admits, is “just such a blessing to be able to stay in this industry to even be able to say 31 years.” The two other ladies agreed with this, nodding their heads. She added, “We can’t even tell you what we did we just know we’ve been living and going.”
The group also discussed the new trend of throwing objects at singers while they are performing, which they made it clear they dislike. Gamble explained that she doesn’t believe that this is going to be an issue. “At our age, I don’t think they’re going to be throwing phones,” she said. Johnson-George said she’s prepared to “whoop somebody’s tail” just in case it does happen.
The group recalled a similar incident in the past when they were on a promotional tour in Chicago. “They threw a couple of cassette tapes at us,” Johnson-George described, but the three of them agreed that it is unlikely this will happen again.
SWV will be joined on stage by Jodeci, an American R&B quartet, that consists of the members DeVanté Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci and JoJo. Dru Hill will also be in attendance with its performers SisQo, Nokio, Jazz, Tao, Scola, Black and Smoke E. Digglera.
The women are already close with the two groups. Gamble shared, “Those are our brothers.” Johnson-George continued to explain that, “We grew up with them,” and have “toured with Dru Hill a lot.”
This is the first time SWV will be touring with Jodeci, but they have done several shows together.
Before ending the interview, the women spoke about their approach to touring. While they don’t typically follow one method, they always “know what we’re worth and we will go where we are appreciated.”
