VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Rapper NextYoungin Reveals How She Uses Her Musical Persona Baddie Kaine

Rapper NextYoungin revealed the inspiration for her persona Daddy Kaine as well as her newer persona Baddie Kaine.

The hip-hop artist’s recent album, Daddy 2 Baddie featured a different sound than her prior music. NextYoungin thought through what went into distinguishing her new album (particularly the track “Different”) from her previous work.

“With Different it’s kind of two stories mixed into one song. So with ‘Different,’ it’s just me talking about me wanting something different for myself and trying something different. Before, my followers and other people saw me as the Daddy Kaine persona, but now I’m coming more into my Baddie Kaine persona musically; you know what I’m saying? I haven’t done it musically, I’ve more so done the Daddy Kaine.”

She added, “And then it also has something to do with the relationships I’ve had in my personal life, dealing with different people.”

NextYoungin explained the role her multiple personas play in her life. “So like with the Daddy Kaine persona, it’s more masculine, more chill, more of a tomboy – of the better term – and then with the Baddie Kaine, I’m coming more into my feminine era. I’m more bubbly, like, laid back, stuff like that. So, how I am now, you can just tell through the music. Like if you go back and listen to the Daddy Kaine type of persona, you can see that the vibe is completely different. The message is really through the music, you can hear it there.”

She laughed, “I can’t say that there’s a time limit on when I decide I want to switch back, it’s really how I feel in the moment…”

NextYoungin also spoke on how her track “Different” came about, and subsequently where the idea for a new era of her music was born.

“I was in the studio with my producer and we were just going through some beats. And we came across that one, and I was like, ‘I really like this, this is just such a different vibe than what I have with my prior music,’ so I was like, ‘Okay let’s just go with that one.’ And at the time I was currently dealing with some personal situations, like relationships and stuff like that, and my mind was really clouded.”
