VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Mark Critch On His Autobiographical TV Series, ‘Son Of A Critch’

Comedian Mark Critch shared his insights on his autobiographical TV series Son of a Critch, adapted from his memoir, in his new uInterview.

Son of a Critch follows Critch in his younger years, played by 15-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, as he comes of age in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in the 1980s.

“The book is all about my life growing up in Newfoundland, Canada, which is on the East Coast of Canada,” Critch told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “We owned our dominion before we joined Canada in 1949 as a fishing place. The fishery was king.”

He continued, “The book was with Penguin Random House and did quite well then my friend. Tim Mcaullife, who was a writer for The Office, said, ‘We should make this into a TV show,’ so we pitched that and we did and here we are three seasons later. “

All the events in the show are based on real-life experiences of the comedian. Critch explained, “The ins and outs are being fictionalized, what I always say is I’ll take a story that happened in grade five and a story from the 11th grade and a story that happened in this point and mix them in this timeline.”

Critch, 49, has emerged as a prominent figure in the Canadian entertainment industry. His role in the award-winning comedy series This Hour Has 22 Minutes, 1993, has cemented his status as a household name.

Critch’s talent has been showcased across various platforms and projects. He has been a guest on CBC Radio One’s popular show, Madly Off in All Directions, and graced the screen in notable productions such as Republic of Doyle. Critch showcased his acting skills in various movies such as Anchor Zone, Rare Birds, and Above and Beyond. He also portrayed the recurring character of Gary Breakfast in the beloved CTV show Satisfaction.

Season three of Son of A Critch is now available on The CW.
