VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo On Studying Law For ‘Lincoln Lawyer’
Lincoln Lawyer, a Netflix Original based off Michael Connelly‘s bestselling novel, has finally arrived on Netflix.
The show is the perfect watch for those who love witty law dramas. The show follows Mickey Haller, a lawyer who was forced into a year hiatus from his career after nearly dying in a surfing accident that left him with a drug addiction. He returns to take on what might be the most important case of his life.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, who plays Mickey, recently sat down with uInterview founder Erik Meers to share insight into his character.
“I really wanted to focus on all the obstacles that he has and his vulnerability,” Garcia-Rulfo revealed. “We find Mickey Haller at the lowest point in his life coming from addiction and not working for so many months. There’s something really cool about watching the journey of the hero. You see him at the bottom of his life and then there’s something really cool about him struggling to get up on his feet, and everybody wants to cheer for that guy. I just hope that viewers are entertained by it and get some laughs.”
Garcia-Rulfo also shared what went into his preparation to play a lawyer.
“I spent a lot of hours watching actual footage from trials. I watched most of the hours of the O.J. Simpson trial to give me a sense of how they move – especially defense lawyers,” the actor said. “I had a lot of meetings prior to shooting with lawyers … defense lawyers as well. All my respect to them, because all the terms and the system that they have to learn is a hard thing. I kind of dig into it.”
Lincoln Lawyer is out on Netflix today.
