In an exclusive uInterview, Andrés Cepeda talks about his new album, Décimo Cuarto, and upcoming tour.
Cepeda recently announced his Tengo Ganas Tour, which will begin in April 2024.
“Tengo Ganas means, ‘I want to,’ and it is the title of one of my most famous songs,” Cepeda explained to uInterview founder Erik Meers. “The difference from my last tour, which was more acoustic-oriented… It’s all about the pop and rock side of my music. It will be a very up-tempo, high-energy show, but also very romantic, because that’s what my music is all about.”
Cepeda said that fans can expect a mix of old and new songs to be featured on the tour.
“You have to be able to provide those songs that they are expecting, but you have to be smart enough to tell them about two, three, four new songs and emphasize them. We try to do that.”
When asked what he looks for when producing new music, Cepeda said he looks to others to get him to take his work to “new places.”
“I try to enjoy myself and please myself. I think if I do that, then people who follow me will be pleased, too,” he said about the creative process. “As long as I’m having fun and enjoying what’s going on in the studio, I think that’s the right way to go.”
Cepeda recently won his fourth Latin Grammy and said that receiving the award “never gets old.”
“It’s always very fun and exciting, you get incredibly anxious just before they announce it. For me it’s a great experience, I have enjoyed it four times — not in a row, which means I have also gone home without one. I know how both situations feel,” Cepeda said. “Hopefully, I get nominated next year for my new album and maybe have that experience again.”
Reflecting on his time as a judge on the series The Voice Kids Colombia, Cepeda said that he never imagined that his career would lead him to television.
“I was a little afraid at the beginning, but I took the chance and discovered that I enjoyed that format,” he said. “I like The Voice because I think it’s respectful of the singers, it has a nice setup and it portrays nice messages of these kids enjoying music. Witnessing any part of these little guys’ beginning in music is a privilege.”
