VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: DJ Gryffin On New Project, Electric Zoo, Creating Music

In his exclusive new uInterview at the Electric Zoo Festival in New York City, musician and DJ Daniel Griffith, better known as Gryffin, revealed that he plans on dropping a new project and spoke in-depth about his creative process. 

Erik Meers, the founder of uInterview, spoke with Gryffin about performing sets like the one at eZoo and the visuals that go into creating a show. “Always working on the flow, trying to put new edits out there, play some of the music I’ve made in the studio or unreleased music,” he said.

He said that he prepares the music and then passes it over to his team so that they “can plan the visuals, the lights, the looks.” Together, they then collaborate on “every song and try and be as meticulous as possible about the best way to present that music.” 

The DJ likes a variety of music, ranging from “relaxing” to a “banger for a nightclub.” His albums typically depend “on what I’m feeling at the moment and where I’m taken creatively on it.” He prefers to focus on “the setting and the vibe in which this music is being listened to” in order to decide on what direction he wants to go in. Despite the genre, he consistently goes “with the flow.” 

Gryffin revealed that he is planning on dropping a new project soon that he has almost completed. He disclosed that “it’s very energetic” and “very fun.” He called it “some of the most fun I’ve had making music in a really long time.” The project has been in the works the entire summer, which for him was “a really creative summer in the studio.” 

Gryffin played on the main stage of Electric Zoo over Labor Day weekend on Randall’s Island in New York City. The annual festival focuses on electronic music. Other famous EDM stars and groups were in attendance, including Major Lazer, Zedd and Tiesto. 

Gryffin is currently on tour, announcing Wednesday on Instagram that he has added an additional date to his tour “to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on November 3rd for a very special show for my hometown.”
