VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Claudia Restrepo, Ben Coleman & Derrick DeBlasis On Relationships In Their Film ‘Peak Season’

The film Peak Season, which premiered at the South By Southwest festival, follows the story of lonely Amy (Claudia Restrepo) and her fiancé Max (Ben Coleman) as they take a summer trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where they meet the charming wilderness guide Loren (Derrick DeBlasis).

In an exclusive interview with uInterview founder Erik Meers, Restrepo, Coleman and DeBlasis revealed their favorite scenes to shoot.

“My was the rodeo scene, I guess it’s not really character development but it was very fun and it felt like a pinnacle of her and Loren’s relationship,” Restrepo said. “They’re really getting to experience if they were just out on a date and having fun and it’s like the highest form of this like the romanticism of Wyoming or the American West and we just got to hang out. There’s a lot of that because it was filmed sort of like a fairy tale, like, you know, the rodeo knew we were filming but they were sort of like hiding around in the stands so we just got the participate as if we were actually there. Or like the scene where we’re doing the tubing, that one was amazing and we would every once in a while see the picture car but we were just enjoying the ride so a lot of this was such a joy because we really just got to hang out in Wyoming and have these big experiences the camera caught.”

“So much of it was fun,” Coleman began. “I mean we’re in one of the most beautiful places in the world so the whole thing was just like taking on amazing scenery and beautiful landscapes but my favorite scene… That’s so tough to say. The first thing that came to mind was one of the first things we shot, which was this 4th of July party that was taking place in Jackson and I had a line in the middle of a packed, uh like, we’re all watching the fireworks and it’s a beautiful firework show but my line was, and none of the people around us really knew that we were filming, so maybe 100 times I had to say, ‘wow, this is pretty impressive for a small town firework show.’ And the guy in front of me is like hearing me say this the whole time and he’s gotta be thinking like, ‘what an A-hole. Why does this guy keep on commenting on our firework show, ‘Yeah it is a nice firework show.’ That’s just something that comes to mind but also second to that being able to like play we shot a scene with Fred Melamed and Stephanie Courtney who are two awesome, hilarious actors and getting to play around and improvise with them and shoot that scene was just so much fun for me.”

“Yeah, I mean, I wasn’t actually in the scene with Fred and Stephanie, but I was there when we were filming it and that was a ton of fun,” DeBlasis said. “I have to say that for me I think it’s funny because I was probably looking forward to the tubing scene the least just because I’m a big baby. I’m very different from my character and then I thought that the water would be super cold and it was kind of like a cool day and it’s like an hour-long commitment to tube down this river and I was like asking Henry [Loevner] and Steve [Kanter], the directors, I’m like, ‘so is this like dangerous? Are we going – like what’s going to happen?’ And they’re like, ‘No, no just go for it, it’ll be fine.’ So I was optimistic but I was cautious about the scene and it turned out to be the scene that I was like a child on Christmas, like it was one of the best experiences of my life, it was so much fun and it was so beautiful and for the majority of it I kind of just forgot that we were shooting it was just such a unique and beautiful experience and if it looks like we’re having fun, it’s because we were.”
