VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Carson Kressley Reveals His Top Travel Tips

TV personality Carson Kressley offered his best travel tips in his new uInterview.

Kressley appeared in the Bravo series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and is currently a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

“The wisdom I have, I hope, applies to everybody traveling, especially as we gear up for the summer vacation season,” Kressley told uInterview exclusively at an event marking National Travel Advisor Day.

Kressley shared the first big tip: “Book early if you can. You know, most resorts, most all-inclusive, even some theme parks or cruise lines, want to make sure they have a business for the entire year, so if you start now and you’re booking something for September or October, they’re willing to do a better deal for you because they want to fill up those months. So the earlier you book, the better off you are.”

The second tip was to try to bring only carry-ons on planes. “Don’t check your bag!” he said. “The airlines do a great job, and really, they very rarely lose your luggage, but it only takes one time.”

“Some really strategic packing, some multi-purpose items, a blazer that works a million different ways. Swim-suits that can double as workout gear. For the ladies, a beautiful beach coverup you can accessorize – keep it really simple,” he added. “If you’re going for a longer timer, you could use that hotel laundry service – which I never did – but it’s less risky than checking your bag.”

Kressley continued, “Number three: use a wholesaler. There are a lot of travel companies, and you can bundle your trip, so they’re going to buy your airfare, your hotel, and maybe your theme park tickets. They’re buying in bigger quantities, they’re buying for large groups, and they’re going to get a better deal on each of those individual components, which will save you money on your vacation.”

His fourth tip was to get travel insurance. “Even if you’re booking on your own — which you shouldn’t be doing,” he noted. “It will ask if you want the insurance, and you really should take it. It can really save you a lot of time and money.”

Kressley’s last tip was, “Obviously, use a travel advisor! They are the professionals. If I’m going to plan a trip, it’s expensive, it’s time-consuming, I want to use a professional too, so I don’t make those do-it-yourself mistakes.”
