In Hello Tomorrow!, two retrofuturistic traveling salesmen Jack Billings (Billy Crudup) and Eddie (Hank Azaria) try to sell timeshares on the moon.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, creators and producers Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen discussed what it was like working with Crudup.

“It was the best gift you could ever be given, it was a profound experience working with Billy,” Bhalla began.

“If you’re not ready to cry in public don’t cast Billy Crudup in your television show because if you do, every day on set you’re at risk for gushing,” Jansen chimed in. “He is giving a performance for the ages, this show it’s not to be missed.”

“There were multiple days on set, weekly even, where Billy would be performing and the room was still,” Bhalla continued. “There were crew members weeping, it was there and profound to watch. There’s one particular scene that’s in the pilot where he’s giving a big speech, although he’s harboring all sorts of darker of feelings and heartbreak underneath it. Afterward, the actors came up to us, Haneefah and Hank, who played Shirley and Eddie and they were like, ‘what was that? Oh my, God, like we didn’t know this was their show. We all gotta start rehearsing on the weekend.’ So it’s like being the coach and you got the best quarterback in the league. Everybody on the team realizes there’s something special going on here we gotta give it our best to match Billy’s love of the material. It was really obvious, you know, the most meaningful experience dramatically either of us have ever had.”

Hello Tomorrow! is now available for streaming on Apple TV+.
