Michiel Huisman On ‘Age Of Adaline,’ Working With Blake Lively [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

Michiel Huisman stars opposite Blake Lively in the time-traveling romance movie The Age of Adaline.

Michiel Huisman On ‘Age Of Adaline’

In The Age of Adaline, directed by Lee Toland Krieger, Huisman plays the successful and philanthropic Ellis Jones. “I tried to kind of ground him and make him a little humble in a way, I hope,” Huisman told uInterview in an exclusive interview, explaining that he feared the Mr. Perfect character wouldn’t be likable. “He meets Adaline and just instantly falls for her and of course he’s blown away by her beauty, but then when he gets to know her, he just feels such an amazing depth to this person, which is not strange because she turns out to be a 107-year-old woman in the body of Blake Lively.”

Huisman believes that The Age of Adaline has a “magical glow” that sets it apart from other romantic flicks. The most obvious bit of surrealism in the film is the fact that Lively’s character doesn’t age, remaining 29 years old till the end of days. Though Huisman admits the idea of being frozen in time appealed to him personally, the notion quickly soured.

“I think that initially I would have thought that staying 29 years old for eight decades is a good idea,” said Huisman. “I think this movie shows, in a very nice way, that it’s actually a burden and a curse to not be able to age and participate in the cycle of life. It’s actually a sad existence; you’ll slowly lose everyone around you.”

Working with Lively, according to Huisman, was a great experience. In addition to having easy chemistry with the former Gossip Girl actress, Huisman shared a love of New Orleans and all it has to offer with Lively, who has a second career running lifestyle website Preserve.

“I had so much fun working with Blake. I think like right from the start we shared our love for New Orleans, which was cool,” Huisman shared. “She spent quite a bit of time there working on different projects and so have I; I lived there. So, we kind of had that connection. She loved the food and stuff, so every other day she’d bring in something great to set. I felt like we had a great rapport and fun portraying these two characters.”

The Age of Adaline is currently in wide release.
