EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Bobby Lee & GaTa Look Reflect On Meaning Of Film ‘Sweet Dreams,’ Working With Johnny Knoxville
Actors Bobby Lee and GaTa reflected on their experience in the comedy-drama Sweet Dreams in their new uInterview.
Sweet Dreams follows an alcoholic as he coaches a misfit team of his fellow housemates while he stays at a sober living unit.
Lee spoke with uInterview founder Erik Meers about what drew him to the role. “The honest truth is I went into this movie because I’m sober, and it felt like doing a once-a-month AA retreat,” he said. “This movie is about service and love.”
GaTa reflected, “I think it was a great movie. I liked working with [Lee], I liked working with all the other cast members were very easy to work with I didn’t know what to expect, but I just know the most important thing about this movie was my connection to it, having a background I can relate to about addiction.”
The movie stars Johnny Knoxville, an actor best known as a co-creator and star of the MTV reality stunt show Jackass and and its subsequent movies.
“Working with Johnny Knoxville, he really blew my socks off,” GaTa said. “He’s America’s favorite jackass, he’s known for pulling the stunts, pranks, dressing up like an old man with his skin falling off and s—, so to see him be serious in that setting. He was really trying to get there so he could get that f—ing Oscar.”
Despite Sweet Dreams’ humor, the film’s primary plot revolves around rehabilitation after addiction. Lee considered the movie’s message, “I want people to feel like, you know, there is great life after sobriety – life is hard, and you get to feel all the feelings, but there is life after being sober, a great life. And I just hope it inspires people to get clean.”
GaTa mused, “It’s not supposed to be easy. That’s the message I want people to realize: to be great, to be better, to put your best foot forward, to actually change and to give up your toxicities, it’s not going to be easy. You gotta put in the work. You know what I’m saying. You really gotta be consistent and try to be better. That’s what people need to know: it’s not going to be easy.”
Sweet Dreams can now be rented on major streaming platforms.
