Don Hannah On ‘The Landing’ & Space Travel [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

Actor and producer Don Hannah was been working on his new film The Landing for a very long time. “We made a short film in 1992 called The Landing that had its own life,” Hannah told uInterview exclusively. “Once we finished, we realized we made a mistake not to make it into a feature.” Years later, the trio reunited for another go. “We circled back to it a few years ago and thought, ‘How interesting would it be to get the same actors and find out what really happened?’ And so this film took 25 years to make,” he said.

Hannah stars as astronaut Bo Cunningham in the faux documentary about NASA mission Apollo 18 — a mission that never happened in real life.

Hannah and the Landing directors, Mark Dodson and David Dodson, have always had an interest in space. “We’ve been following the entire space program since we were kids and when we first got out to Los Angeles and wanted to begin our first project, we found this incredible location in the desert where Planet of the Apes had been filmed and Capricorn One, another film about the Apollo mission. And so we decided to keep it very simple and do a film about an Apollo mission that landed off-course,” Hannah told uInterview.

The Landing is now in limited release in select cities.

Q: How did you first get interested in this project?

A: [Don Hannah]: “Both Mark and David Dodson the twin brothers who directed this film and me were always into space. We had followed the uh The Apollo, The Gemini, we’ve been following the entire space program since we were child-kids and uh when we first got out to uh Los Angeles, and wanted to begin our first project uh we had found this incredible location out in the desert where Planet Of The Apes had been filmed, Capricorn One and other um film about Apollo mission and uh and so we um decided to keep it very simple and uh do a film about three, an Apollo mission that landed off course.”

Q: How long have you been working on the project?

A: [Don Hannah]: “We made a short film in uh, in 1992 that uh- called The Landing, that had its own life. That was actually a very long short film we like to think of it as the first short film with an intermission and uh and that was the – and then uh we, once we finished we realized that we made a mistake not make it into a feature and uh we went on with our own careers and we circled back to it a few years ago and uh and thought how interesting it would be to get the same actors and find out what really happened. And so this film took 25 years to make haha.”
