Anthony Mackie Video Interview On ‘Man On A Ledge’

Anthony Mackie, best known for his performance in 2009’s Academy Award-winning The Hurt Locker, stars in the up-coming thriller Man on a Ledge. In the film, which has an all-star cast including actors Sam Worthington, Jamie Bell, Kyra Sedgwick, Edward Burns, Elizabeth Banks and Ed Harris, Mackie plays a police psychologist who tries to reason with Nick (Worthington), a suicidal man who climbs to 21st floor of the Roosevelt hotel in New York City and is ready to leap down.

For Mackie, the film was a new experience. “I give the clues and the ideas to figure out the drama that is unfolding with Sam Worthington. So, I had never played a character like that, so I wanted to try and see if I was able to carry a suspense-thriller or if I would fall flat on my face,” Mackie told Uinterview in an exclusive video interview.

According to Mackie, Man on a Ledge was a “really easy, fun movie to work on.” Nevertheless, Mackie didn’t agree with everything that director Asger Leth had in store. “We shot on the 22nd floor of the Roosevelt Hotel here in Manhattan and we were out on a ledge on the 22nd floor of this hotel and I didn’t get that. I asked the director, I was like, “Dude, we can shoot this standing on a dresser and people would believe us. Why are we up on the 22nd floor?” He was like, “But I need it to be real for YOU.” I didn’t get it, but seeing the movie, I think it paid off really well. It was a good choice,” Mackie said. Nevertheless, it appears, that Mackie is more afraid of spiders, than of heights.
