VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Team USA Women’s Basketball Coach Cheryl Reeve Says Squad Needs ‘Hunger’ For Gold At Paris Olympics

U.S. women’s basketball coach Cheryl Reeve discussed the team’s route to a gold medal at the Olympics in with uInterview in May. Reeve serves as the head coach and president of operations of the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx, winning coach of the year three times and executive of the year in 2019.

“You can’t escape the narrative about how many times USA Basketball won gold,” Reeve said. “You have to have a hunger about what you’re doing, and I want them to be hungry about this experience.”

When asked about life lessons the players will learn, Reeve says that the “greatest lesson that they will learn is selflessness” because the expectations are sky high on the global stage.

Team USA’s coach began her career at La Salle University as an assistant coach for two years before going to George Washington for another five years. During her time at George Washington, Reeve witnessed the Colonials make four NCAA Tournaments and win three Atlantic 10 conference titles.

Reeve then served as Indiana State’s head coach, where she’s tied with Kay Riek for the fifth most wins as a Lady Sycamore coach. From 2001-2009, Reeve served as an assistant on the Sting, Rockers and Shock before getting her present gig with the Lynx in 2010. The Lynx won four WNBA titles under Reeve. Reeve will be Team USA’s coach until the end of 2024 as she took over for Dawn Staley in late 2021.
