Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister on 'Game Of Thrones'
In the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) died in the arms of her brother-lover Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), as the world crumbled before them.
A large number of viewers were upset that Cersei, the villain for the majority of the show, didn’t meet a grimly death by the hands of Arya, Daenerys or Jaime. A lot of fans expected her to die according to the valonqar prophecy, which was never mentioned in the show.
The reactions to Cersei’s death are mixed, but they have everyone talking and here’s just a brief sampling of those reactions.
Some viewers were stunned and even surprised when Cersei wasn’t killed by her brother or Arya.
Others were bittersweet and wished they could have done more with Cersei this whole season.
While Lena Headey initially had a different ending in mind for her character, she came around to the idea of Cersei dying in her brother’s arms.
“The more we talked about it the more it seemed like the perfect end for her,” Headey said. “They came into the world together and now they leave together.”
