Tracy Morgan is talking about the car crash that changed his life.
“You’re never going to be normal after you go through something like that. You don’t die for a few weeks and then come back to normal, trust me,” he told Complex. “Something’s going to be missing, something’s going to be gained—you just got to live your life after that. But after surviving something like that, I’m never going to be normal.”
Tracy Morgan’s monologue on SNL in October:
The crash in June 2014 killed Morgan’s long time friend and comedian James McNair and left Morgan in a coma for weeks. The trucker who caused that crash hadn’t slept in 28 hours, and his employer Walmart settled a lawsuit with Morgan in May.
The Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock actor said that he went to the other side during his coma and learned his time was not up.
“This is not something I’m making up. Do you know what God said to me? He said ‘Your room ain’t ready. I still got something for you to do.’ And here I am, having an interview with you.”
The actor said he has no big plans other than being a spokesman for Foot Locker and a 2016 tour. Morgan returned to Saturday Night Live in October, which he described as “special.”
“There was so much goodwill and I felt that energy, like ‘Yo, we happy you’re alive!’ It wasn’t like they were looking for laughter, no. ‘We just happy you alive and you’re here walking,’” Morgan said. “And that made it special for me. I just want to give it back through my sense of humor.”
