Actor Tim Daly has broken both his legs in a freak skiing accident in Sundance, Utah.
Daly currently plays the husband of the Secretary of State in CBS’s Madam Secretary. The writers are in the midst of some potentially serious rewrites in order to work in the actor’s broken legs.
Daly was scheduled to have surgery on his legs today, and doctors say he is expected to require somewhere between six and eight weeks of recovery time before he is back to normal. Variety reports that the actor will appear in every episode of the upcoming season alongside his co-star and on-screen wife Tea Leoni. However, given how far into the shoot schedule the show is, the writer’s team may not need to make many changes.
Daly has previously said he loves his character on the show because he is a multi-dimensional male. “I have guys come up to me all the time and say, ‘Thank God you are playing a competent man. Thank you for being someone who’s, you know, strong and can fix stuff where the house doesn’t burn down if his wife goes away,'” he said.
Daly is political in his personal life in addition to on TV. He was seen taking part in the Women’s March on Washington the Saturday following Donald Trump‘s inauguration. He has also previously served as president of the Creative Coalition, a non-profit that combines First Amendment rights and advocacy for the arts.
