‘This Is Us’ Pays Tribute To Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting Victims

The final moments of last night’s episode of NBC’s This Is Us paid tribute to Pittsburgh’s Synagogue Shooting Victims.

The message that aired at the end of the episode remembered the 11 people that were killed during Saturday’s mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue, which is said to be the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in U.S. history. 

“Our hearts are broken. We stand with our television hometown of Pittsburgh,” the message read. It then directed people to learn more about ending gun violence by visiting everytown.org which is a website that advocates for ending gun violence and building safer communities. 

This Is Us is set in Pennsylvania city and during the show, the Pearson family often root for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and last season Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia’s characters even traveled to Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field. 

This Is Us creator and executive producer, Dan Fogelman posted the episode’s end card on Twitter and also encouraged followers to support the Pittsburg community by donating to the Victims of Terror Fund. 

This Is Us stars, Moore, Justin Harley, and Susan Kelechi Watson also shared messages of support to the victims over Twitter. 

The victims of Saturday’s shooting included siblings, a wife and husband, a 97-year-old-woman, and four responding police officers.

Robert Bowers, who is the suspected shooter that opened fire during the Shabbat service at the Tree of Life Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighbored has been charged with 29 crimes. According to U.S. Attorney Scott Brady, the 29 charges have been broken down into 11 counts of murdering victims exercising their religious beliefs, 11 counts of using a firearm to commit murder, and seven charges for his alleged attack on the responding police officers at the scene, of which four were wounded.
