‘Supergirl’: Season 2, Episode 16, ‘Star-Crossed,’ Filled With Surprises

American superhero TV series Supergirl returned Monday with its 16th episode in its second season. “Star-Crossed” was filled to the brim with surprises, both for audiences and the characters involved.

‘Supergirl’ Episode 16, ‘Star-Crossed’ Filled With Surprises

Kara (Melissa Benoist) discovered that Mon-El (Chris Wood) was actually the Prince of Daxam, which was confirmed by Mon-El’s royal parents, King Lar Gand and Queen Rhea. Upon this discovery, Kara displays a wide range of emotional reactions, starting with disbelief, and ending with pure fury. Kara even tells her sister, “I hate him right now.”

But since it’s Kara, she changes her mind rather quickly. After a quick talk with the queen, she helped to convince Mon-El to return to Daxam as the face for its hopeful future.

At the end of the episode, Mon-El finally stood up to his parents, telling them, “I wish you no ill will, but you should leave this planet and never return.” However, even despite this, it’ll still take time for him to win back Kara’s trust. Mon-El even goes as far as making an epic apology speech, telling Kara:

“My name is Mon-El. I’m the former Prince of Daxam. And I was a spoiled, useless person, but I didn’t know until I met you. I love being a hero because it means I get to spend every single day by your side. I love the way you’re honest to a fault. And the way that you fight for those you care for. And I love you. With everything that I have, I love you. You’re so special. … I’m sorry for [lying to you.] You’re right, I’m a liar, and I really hope you can still see the good in me. Please.”

Mon-El wasn’t the only dishonest character who revealed his true identity; also joining this club was Lyra, whose name even sounds like “liar.” Winn and new girlfriend Lyra broke into a museum for some raunchy fun, but Winn later discovered that a Van Gogh had been stolen. Lyra was conveniently not shown in the security footage, which tipped Winn off that he had been played.

It’s later revealed that Lyra’s brother was in trouble with a local alien gang, and stolen artwork was the only way to repay his debt. Luckily, Winn was not punished for breaking into a museum. To be fair, he didn’t steal the painting.

Towards the end of the 45-minute drama-packed episode, Darren Criss is introduced as the villainous Music Meister. He seemingly hypnotizes Supergirl, sending her to an alternate plane where she’s trapped in a movie musical, then heads off to track down “the fastest man alive,” The Flash.

With all its exciting twists and turns, this week’s episode of SuperGirl, which aired on The CW, is surely not to be missed.
